This independently written planning companion uses US crochet terminology. The accompanying Reel is an AI-generated illustration, not a verified finished sample or a stitch tutorial. Read the material and size specifications
The PDF gives S/M, L/XL and 2X/3X sizes, with lower edges of 27, 31 or 35 inches and wingspans of 38¼, 43¾ or 49¼ inches. It calls for Red Heart Super Saver Black in 3, 4 or 4 skeins and Zebra in 2, 3 or 3 skeins. The listed solid skeins are 198 g/364 yd; multicolor skeins are 141 g/236 yd. A 6 mm hook is the starting point, with nearby sizes useful for controlling pooling. The moss-stitch gauge is 13 stitches, including chains, and 13 rows per 4 inches.
Understand the construction
The black-and-white pooled trim is made first, to 54, 62 or 70 inches. The black body is worked along its long edge, and the folded collar completes the asymmetric shape. The argyle effect comes from controlling a variegated yarn’s color sequence; it is not a conventional chart of separate black and white yarn changes.
Test the actual color repeat
Make the pooling sample from the skein you intend to use. Record the number of stitches obtained from each color section and check several repeats. A different dye lot or variegated yarn may behave differently, even when the label weight matches.
Fit the body to the finished trim
Let the border rest before measuring it. Compare the solid fabric’s gauge with the actual trim rather than assuming both will settle identically. Keep the selected size column and border length together in your project notes.
Keep the collar measurements separate
Mark the shoulder seam and collar fold before assembly. A collar depth is not a neckline circumference. The illustrated diamond spacing is approximate; use the official pooling instructions to establish a repeat that works with your yarn.
How to read the illustration
Black body, folded neck and black-white diamond lower border; the illustrated point is more centered and the border more regular than the asymmetric pooled source. Generic black edge work does not demonstrate planned pooling. Follow the official PDF for the actual construction and stitch sequence.
